Click on “Resources -> SiteCheck” to load the Free Malware Scanner. Enter the URL you want to scan and click “Scan Website”. The scanning can take up to 30 seconds, so wait until the Please Wait… icon disappears to see the results. Note: If you scan a site more than once, Sucuri will cache the result for a period of time, this means if you had malware and removed it, you need to scroll down on the results page and click the “re-scan” link to re-fresh the scan.
Virus total started out as an online file malware scanner but soon after added the ability to scan URL’s. What’s different about VirusTotal is they don’t actually do the scanning, they use a bunch of third parties results. This in many ways is better than just a single scan from one provider as it will check multiple providers in the database. Once you go to VirusTotal, click “URL” and enter the URL you want to scan.
Scanning your Website for Malware should be done on a regular basis.
As always, we suggest you:
- Keep your website up to date with the latest updates and patches.
- Use Strong passwords (or even better passphrases).
- Always remove or change passwords for anyone doing development work on your site.
